SITE
The project is located at Haad Mai Khao, Phuket, within the grounds of Sala Phuket Resort, adjacent to the main lobby and serving as a transition route to the guest rooms.
The design approach uses walls as connective elements that link the architecture with the surrounding landscape along the resort’s primary circulation path. This strategy creates a cluster of small-scale buildings that partially screen views toward the guest room areas, enhancing privacy within the resort.
The wall framework is expressed through a raw timber formwork system using 1 1/2” x 3” wood members, evoking the texture and character of traditional timber shuttering. This material reference recalls the wooden retaining structures once found along Phuket’s coastline, which were destroyed by the tsunami in 2004.
BUILDING
The building is designed through the separation of the four sensory experiences—light, sound, touch, and scent—allowing each sense to be perceived independently.
The spatial experience emphasizes sensory awareness, using light and water in varying conditions as key elements to connect human perception with architectural space.
